- (Bialystok, 1881-Great Neck, Nueva York, 1961) Pintor estadounidense de origen ruso.
- Estudió pintura en Italia y Francia, y fue discípulo de Matisse.
- Afincado en EE UU, formó parte del grupo de A. Stieglitz, desarrollando una suerte de cubismo sintético y una abstracción dinámica de derivación cubista.
- En los años veinte evolucionó hacia un estilo menos abstracto, influido por Cézanne, con naturalezas muertas y paisajes.
- A finales de los años treinta se inclinó por temas inspirados en la vida hebrea, de figuración casi expresionista.
